The Shelby County Chamber is excited to announce its newest program, Shelby Connect.

“The mission of the Shelby County Chamber has many facets. One important facet of the Chamber is to prepare our younger residents and workforce to be the leaders for tomorrow. The want to connect with this group and assist them to build networking opportunities, sharpen their leadership skills and better understand the dynamics of this great county,” said Nathan Runnebohm, President of the Shelby County Chamber.

Julia Polston, of Beaty Construction/ C-Tech is leading the charge to building this group. Polston was on a Leadership Shelby County team that undertook this mission a couple of years ago.

“We created this group and had some momentum, then Covid put a halt to our growth. Now we are ready to begin Shelby Connect – a brand new arm of the Shelby Chamber geared towards emerging leaders. We want everyone to feel welcome no matter what business, trade, work-from home business or occupation you represent. We want to be all-inclusive and connect with each other,” said Polston.

Noah Henderson, Ryobi Die Casting employee and one of the original founders of the pre-Covid young professionals’ group that became Backyard Shelby, agreed.

“It’s really a shame that Covid stopped the evolution of the group, but I think we’re better prepared, have a great relationship with the Shelby County Chamber who is willing to help us facilitate this important segment of our community. We truly are connecting Shelby County emerging leaders with the current leaders,” Henderson said. “I’m beyond thrilled that it’s now evolving into Shelby Connect. I think that is the perfect name for this group.”

Polston was quick to promote the first event. The first meeting will be on Thursday, September 22 from 5 pm to 7 pm at Blue Bear Golf Club, 2660 North Riley Road in Shelbyville.

“We’ll have a nacho bar, bar service, golf simulator, darts, and pool to enjoy too,” she said. “It’s going to be very casual – more like a “let’s get acquainted get together. We’re also going to provide free photographs of head shots for attendees to use for their LinkedIN account and other professional reasons.”

The photos will be taken by Rachael Ackley of H20 Design & Photography.

“I’m excited about the head shots, everyone likes to have a good, professional to use,” Polston said. “Don’t forget your business card, this will be a great place to make new connections.”

Please RSVP the Shelby Chamber at 317-398-6647 or email Kylie McCrory, Events & Special Programs Coordinator for the Shelby Chamber at kyliemccrory @shelbychamber.net.

“It’s going to be fun to watch this group develop,” Runnebohm said. “They’ve talked about several ideas they plan to coordinate, and it sounds fun and a great way to transform into the next generation of leaders here in Shelby County.

“I hope we get interest from our small communities like Morristown, Waldron, Fairland and Flat Rock,” he continued.

Individuals helping on getting this group organized is Julia Polston, Beaty Construction/C-Tech Corporation; Noah Henderson, Ryobi Die Casting; Ricca Macklin, Shelbyville Central Schools; Kathryn Woods, Knauf Insulation and Max Southern, The Ville Church in Shelbyville. Shelby County Chamber Board Mentors are Nathan Runnebohm, Runnebohm Realty and Josh Georgen, Major Health Partners.

I just finished listening to a discussion on the radio about Internet search engines. One of the guests wanted to determine the longitude and latitude of an emerging African nation and had begun his hunt with the phrase: WHERE IS_____? Before he started typing the name of the country, Google…

Last week we talked about God’s intolerance of sin, any sin, and the punishment that must accompany it. Thankfully, this same righteous and holy God is also gracious and merciful, sending his son Jesus to take that punishment for us and reconcile us to Him. “We are made right with God by pla…
